Arts Specialism

This year students have once again had the opportunity to take part in a number of Arts days.  This year the themes have included “Chinese New Year”, “Communication” and “Friendship”.  Students worked in Art, Music, Graphics and Drama to produce pieces based on the themes.  They enjoyed having access to materials, tools and processes, they perhaps would not normally have the opportunity to access.

Music Tour to Italy 2015

Forty two students, four staff and one ex-student, eagerly boarded the coach on our journey to Lake Garda.

We met our two dirvers at Dover, one of them appropriately named Langley who drove us on our last Italian tour to Florence. Twenty two hours later we arrived at Hotel Garesano and the sight of the enormous swimming pool suddenly revitalised everyone!

We visited Verona, including Juliet's home and famous balcony and enjoyed the first of many wonderful Italian ice creams; Sirmione, a beautiful moated town, had an hour's cruise on Lake Garda and our last excursion was to Gardaland where the water rides proved popular. Our three concers were all in beautiful venues on the lake and were well received by locals and tourists alike.

As usual new friendships were forged and students experienced a different culture and the opportunity to gel as performers.

Make Your Move!

The new KLS ‘Resonate Dance Company’ recently participated in a National dance competition to celebrate the work of the British Red Cross. Thirteen students across all year groups led by Miss Wilson Choreographed and performed a 7 minute dance based on the work of the Red Cross in the Ivory Coast during its brutal civil war.

The aim of the project was to not only develop awareness of the amazing work of the charity but to also raise valuable funds for future projects both in the UK and abroad.

The Dancers raised over £500 and were awarded a Gold Certificate for their efforts.

The group did not progress to the regional finals this year but were recognised by the Judges with a certificate of commendation for, ‘The Most Imaginative Theme’ and aim to back next year fighting for a place in the next round!
