If a student feels unwell, they should ask for their teacher's permission to go to the Medical Room (via Reception) where the office staff are qualified in First Aid.
A student who wishes to go to the Medical Room during lesson time MUST have their Exit Sheet signed in their diary. If the Exit Sheet is not signed, they will be asked to return to the teacher to get it signed before returning to the Medical Room.
The First Aid/Office staff will decide if a child is well enough to return to lessons after a rest or needs to go home. Parents will be contacted where necessary.
Students must not call home themselves and ask to be collected - there is a procedure that all students must follow, without exception. Sanctions will be issued to students who do not follow the school rules.
A list of all students who visit the Medical Room (along with times) is kept every day on a database and this will highlight recurrent visits. The appropriate action is taken; either by talking to parents or the Pastoral Leader as this can identify problems a student may be experiencing which we can then help to resolve.
Medication at school:
We are happy to hold medication for you that your child may need to take during the school day. However, the school is not responsible for noting expiry dates on any medication (including Epipens) and as such you are required to complete a MED1 form if you would like us to hold any medication. Staff will not accept medication to be stored without a completed MED1.
Your child is responsible for ensuring that medication is taken on time.
Students are not permitted to leave a lesson in order to take medication - they must do so between lessons or at morning break or lunch time.
If your child suffers from regular headaches, hayfever etc it is recommended that parents supply us with medication for their child so they can help themselves to carry on with the school day as normal.
Please ensure ALL medication is taken to the Main Office (via Reception) and logged in on a MED1 form. The MED1 form is available for download below as a Word document and as a PDF.
Students must NOT carry medication around the school with them as this has very serious Health and Safety implications. This includes any tablets, suspension and especially needles used for diabetes control.
All staff are Epipen trained.
Ongoing medical conditions
We ask the parents of students who have had a serious medical condition in the past, are currently suffering from a medical condition or who are likely to suffer from a serious reaction (Epipen users) to inform us immediately. This enables us to inform the teaching and support staff in case of an emergency.
The form to complete in these cases is below in both Word and PDF formats.
